"Description": "Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets, amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension, and amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets (chewable) are oral antibacterial combinations consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic amoxicillin, USP and the beta–lactamase inhibitor, clavulanate potassium, USP (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin, USP is an analog of ampicillin, derived from the basic penicillin nucleus, 6–aminopenicillanic acid. Chemically, amoxicillin, USP is ( 2S, 5R, 6R)–6–[( R)–(–)–2–Amino–2–( p–hydroxyphenyl)acetamido]–3,3–dimethyl–7–oxo–4–thia–1–azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane–2–carboxylic acid trihydrate and has the following structural formula:. C 16H 19N 3O 5S3H 2O M.W. 419.45. Clavulanic acid is produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces clavuligerus. It is a beta-lactam structurally related to the penicillins and possesses the ability to inactivate some beta-lactamases by blocking the active sites of these enzymes. Chemically, clavulanate potassium, USP is potassium ( Z)-(2 R,5 R)-3-(2-hydroxyethylidene)-7-oxo-4-oxa-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]-heptane-2-carboxylate, and has the following structural formula:. C 8H 8KNO 5M.W. 237.25. Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium Tablets, USP: 1 500 mg/125 mg:Each tablet contains 500 mg of amoxicillin, USP as the trihydrate, and 125 mg of clavulanic acid (equivalent to 149 mg of clavulanate potassium). , 2 875 mg/125 mg:Each tablet contains 875 mg of amoxicillin, USP as the trihydrate, and 125 mg of clavulanic acid (equivalent to 149 mg of clavulanate potassium). ."

"IndicationAndUsage": "For steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial infection exists. Ocular corticosteroids are indicated in inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe where the inherent risk of corticosteroids use in certain infective conjunctivitides is accepted to obtain a diminution in edema and inflammation. They are also indicated in chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injury from chemical, radiation or thermal burns; or penetration of foreign bodies. The use of a combination drug with an anti-infective component is indicated where the risk of infection is high or where there is an expectation that potentially dangerous numbers of bacteria will be present in the eye. The particular anti-infective drug in this product is active against the following common bacterial eye pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Haemophilusinfluenzae, Klebsiella/Enterobacter species, Neisseria species, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This product does not provide adequate coverage against: Serratia marcescens and Streptococci, including Streptococcus pneumoniae.",

<IndicationAndUsage>For steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where bacterial infection or a risk of bacterial infection exists. This product does not provide adequate coverage against: Serratia marcescens and Streptococci, including Streptococcus pneumoniae.</IndicationAndUsage>
