"Description": "Pomalidomide is a thalidomide analog. The chemical name is (RS)-4-Amino-2-(2,6-dioxo-piperidin-3-yl)-isoindoline-1,3-dione and it has the following chemical structure:. The empirical formula for pomalidomide is C13H11N3O4 and the gram molecular weight is 273.24. Pomalidomide is a yellow to dark yellow powder. It has limited to low solubility into organic solvents and is practically insoluble in all pH solutions (about 0.01 mg/mL). Pomalidomide has a chiral carbon atom which exists as a racemic mixture of the R(+) and S(-) enantiomers. Pomalidomide capsule is available in 1-mg, 2-mg, 3-mg, and 4-mg capsules for oral administration. Each capsule contains pomalidomide as the active ingredient and the following inactive ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, maltodextrin, pregelatinized starch, and sodium stearyl fumarate. The 1-mg capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, iron oxide yellow, and black ink. The 2-mg capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, iron oxide yellow, iron oxide red, and black ink. The 3-mg capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, FD&C blue 2, iron oxide yellow, black ink, and white ink. The 4-mg capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, FD&C blue 2, black ink, and white ink. Black ink contains black iron oxide, potassium hydroxide, propylene glycol, and shellac. <IndicationAndUsage>Phentermine Hydrochloride, USP 15 mg and 30 mg is indicated as a short-term (a few weeks) adjunct in a regimen of weight reduction based on exercise, behavioral modification and caloric restriction in the management of exogenous obesity for patients with an initial body mass index greater than or equal to 30 kg/m 2, or greater than or equal to 27 kg/m 2 in the presence of other risk factors (e.g., controlled hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia). Below is a chart of Body Mass Index (BMI) based on various heights and weights. BMI is calculated by taking the patient’s weight, in kilograms (kg), divided by the patient’s height, in meters (m), squared. Metric conversions are as follows: pounds ÷ 2.2 = kg; inches x 0.0254 = meters. The limited usefulness of agents of this class, including Phentermine hydrochloride, [ see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY ( 12.1, 12.2)] should be measured against possible risk factors inherent in their use such as those described below.</IndicationAndUsage>
