"IndicationAndUsage": "Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets are indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms in the conditions listed below. Lower Respiratory Tract Infections – caused by β-lactamaseproducing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Otitis Media – caused by β-lactamase-producing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Sinusitis – caused by β-lactamase-producing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Skin and Skin Structure Infections – caused by β-lactamaseproducing strains of S. aureus, E. coli and Klebsiella spp. Urinary Tract Infections – caused by β-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, Klebsiella spp. and Enterobacter spp. While amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets are indicated only for the conditions listed above, infections caused by ampicillin-susceptible organisms are also amenable to amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets treatment due to its amoxicillin content. Therefore, mixed infections caused by ampicillin-susceptible organisms and β-lactamase-producing organisms susceptible to amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets should not require the addition of another antibiotic. Because amoxicillin has greater in-vitro activity against S. pneumoniae than does ampicillin or penicillin, the majority of S. pneumoniae strains with intermediate susceptibility to ampicillin or penicillin are fully susceptible to amoxicillin and amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets. (See Microbiology.). To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets and other antibacterial drugs, amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy. Bacteriological studies, to determine the causative organisms and their susceptibility to amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets, should be performed together with any indicated surgical procedures.",
"Description": "Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets are an oral antibacterial combination consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic amoxicillin and the β-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanate potassium (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin is an analog of ampicillin, derived from the basic penicillin nucleus, 6-aminopenicillanic acid. The amoxicillin molecular formula is C16H19N3O5S3H2O and the molecular weight is 419.46. Chemically, amoxicillin is (2S,5R,6R)-6-((R)-(-)-2-Amino-2-(p-hydroxyphenyl) acetamido]-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-4-thia-1-azabicyclo(3.2.0) heptane-2-carboxylic acid trihydrate and may be represented structurally as. Clavulanic acid is produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces clavuligerus. It is a β-lactam structurally related to the penicillins and possesses the ability to inactivate a wide variety of β-lactamases by blocking the active sites of these enzymes. Clavulanic acid is particularly active against the clinically important plasmid mediated β-lactamases frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins. The clavulanate potassium molecular formula is C8H8KNO5 and the molecular weight is 237.25. Chemically clavulanate potassium is potassium (Z )-(2R,5R)-3-(2-hydroxyethylidene)-7-oxo-4-oxa-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]-heptane-2-carboxylate and may be represented structurally as. Each chewable tablet and each teaspoon (5 mL) of reconstituted oral suspension contains 200 mg or 400 mg amoxicillin as the trihydrate and 28.5 or 57 mg clavulanic acid as the potassium salt. Each 200 mg/28.5 mg chewable tablet and each 5 mL of reconstituted amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium 200 mg/28.5 mg oral suspension contains 0.14 mEq potassium. Each 400 mg/57 mg chewable tablet and each 5 mL of reconstituted 400 mg/57 mg oral suspension contains 0.29 mEq of potassium."

"IndicationAndUsage": "Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms in the conditions listed below. Lower Respiratory Tract Infections − caused by β-lactamase−producing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Otitis Media − caused by β-lactamase−producing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Sinusitis − caused by β-lactamase−producing strains of H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis. Skin and Skin Structure Infections − caused by β-lactamase−producing strains of S. aureus, E. coli, and Klebsiella spp. Urinary Tract Infections − caused by β-lactamase−producing strains of E. coli, Klebsiella spp. and Enterobacter spp. While Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium is indicated only for the conditions listed above, infections caused by ampicillin-susceptible organisms are also amenable to treatment with Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium due to its amoxicillin content. Therefore, mixed infections caused by ampicillin-susceptible organisms and β-lactamase−producing organisms susceptible to Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium should not require the addition of another antibiotic. Because amoxicillin has greater in vitro activity against S. pneumoniae than does ampicillin or penicillin, the majority of S. pneumoniae strains with intermediate susceptibility to ampicillin or penicillin are fully susceptible to amoxicillin and Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium. (See Microbiology.). To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium and other antibacterial drugs, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may contribute to the empiric selection of therapy. Bacteriological studies, to determine the causative organisms and their susceptibility to Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium, should be performed together with any indicated surgical procedures.",
"Description": "Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium is an oral antibacterial combination consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic amoxicillin and the β-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanate potassium (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid). Amoxicillin is an analog of ampicillin, derived from the basic penicillin nucleus, 6-aminopenicillanic acid. The amoxicillin molecular formula is C16H19N3O5S3H2O, and the molecular weight is 419.46. Chemically, amoxicillin is (2S,5R,6R )-6-[(R)-(-)-2-Amino-2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)acetamido]-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-4-thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid trihydrate and may be represented structurally as. Clavulanic acid is produced by the fermentation of Streptomyces clavuligerus. It is a β-lactam structurally related to the penicillins and possesses the ability to inactivate a wide variety of β-lactamases by blocking the active sites of these enzymes. Clavulanic acid is particularly active against the clinically important plasmid-mediated β-lactamases frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance to penicillins and cephalosporins. The clavulanate potassium molecular formula is C8H8KNO5, and the molecular weight is 237.25. Chemically, clavulanate potassium is potassium (Z)-(2R,5R )-3-(2-hydroxyethylidene)-7-oxo-4-oxa-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]-heptane-2-carboxylate and may be represented structurally as."

<IndicationAndUsage>A. By intravenous or intramuscular injection when oral therapy is not feasible. 1. Endocrine disorders. Primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency (hydrocortisone or cortisone is the drug of choice; synthetic analogs may be used in conjunction with mineralocorticoids where applicable; in infancy, mineralocorticoid supplementation is of particular importance). Acute adrenocortical insufficiency (hydrocortisone or cortisone is the drug of choice; mineralocorticoid supplementation may be necessary, particularly when synthetic analogs are used). Preoperatively, and in the event of serious trauma or illness, in patients with known adrenal insufficiency or when adrenocortical reserve is doubtful. Shock unresponsive to conventional therapy if adrenocortical insufficiency exists or is suspected. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Nonsuppurative thyroiditis. Hypercalcemia associated with cancer. 2. Rheumatic Disorders. As adjunctive therapy for short-term administration (to tide the patient over an acute episode or exacerbation) in. Post-traumatic osteoarthritis. Synovitis of osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis, including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (selected cases may require low-dose maintenance therapy). Acute and subacute bursitis. Epicondylitis. Acute nonspecific tenosynovitis. Acute gouty arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis. Ankylosing spondylitis. 3. Collagen Diseases. During an exacerbation or as maintenance therapy in selected cases of. Systemic lupus erythematosus. Acute rheumatic carditis. 4. Dermatologic Diseases. Pemphigus. Severe erythema multiforme. (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome). Exfoliative dermatitis. Bullous dermatitis herpetiformis. Severe seborrheic dermatitis. Severe psoriasis. Mycosis fungoides. 5. Allergic States. Control of severe or incapacitating allergic conditions intractable to adequate trials of conventional treatment in. Bronchial asthma. Contact dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis. Serum sickness. Seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis. Drug hypersensitivity reactions. Urticarial transfusion reactions. Acute noninfectious laryngeal edema (epinephrine is the drug of first choice). 6. Symptomatic sarcoidosis. Berylliosis. Fulminating or disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis when used concurrently with appropriate antituberculous chemotherapy. Loeffler's syndrome not manageable by other means. Aspiration pneumonitis. 9. Hematologic Disorders. Acquired (autoimmune) hemolytic anemia. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in adults (IV only; IM administration is contraindicated). Secondary thrombocytopenia in adults. Erythroblastopenia (RBC anemia). Congenital (erythroid) hypoplastic anemia. 10. Neoplastic Diseases. For palliative management of. Leukemias and lymphomas in adults. Acute leukemia of childhood. 11. Edematous States. To induce diuresis or remission of proteinuria in the nephrotic syndrome, without uremia, of the idiopathic type or that due to lupus erythematosus. 12. Miscellaneous. Tuberculosis meningitis with subarachnoid block or impending block when used concurrently with appropriate antituberculous chemotherapy. Trichinosis with neurologic or myocardial involvement. 13. Diagnostic testing of adrenocortical hyperfunction. 14. Cerebral Edema associated with primary or metastatic brain tumor, craniotomy, or head injury. <IndicationAndUsage>Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets are indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms in the conditions listed below. Bacteriological studies, to determine the causative organisms and their susceptibility to amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets, should be performed together with any indicated surgical procedures.</IndicationAndUsage>
<Description>Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension and chewable tablets are an oral antibacterial combination consisting of the semisynthetic antibiotic amoxicillin and the β-lactamase inhibitor, clavulanate potassium (the potassium salt of clavulanic acid). Each 400 mg/57 mg chewable tablet and each 5 mL of reconstituted 400 mg/57 mg oral suspension contains 0.29 mEq of potassium.</Description>
